How I stopped time, without pressing any magic buttons.

Click, Clack, Click, ring,… sometimes it is easy to get caught in the moment, in fact its easy to caught up in life itself. Does it ever seem that sometimes that you are going throughout the day in just the same motions as before? Are you living in the moment or are you just going about your every day routine and not taking the time and stop and breathe.

It is easy to get overwhelmed, I know for a fact that I do. I am in my second to last semester graduating to get my bachelor’s in Criminal Justice.  Besides being a full time student, I work full time, just started an internship, go to the gym, and barely have a social life. Some days I feel I am running to my car to get to point A to point B, without even noticing where time went or what is around me. Here are three tips that helped me stop time and bring a balance into my busy schedule.

  1. Assembling your life garden……

Seems a little strange when you first read it, but think you your life as a garden. If you have limited water and space, what does that mean to you? It probably means that you will have to go through your garden and see what plants fit into the space given and be able to flourish with just the set amount of water given. Get what I am trying to say? A garden takes time, sun, water, and care. You can’t expect to have 100 plants in your garden and be able to take care of them all at once. Focus on a few items that are important to you, water them, nourish them, and watch the growth transform.

  • Deceleration time.

Mhmm you get home from picking up the kids, running around making dinner, going here to there….now go to sleep…A huge issue in America today is many individuals are having a hard time going to sleep at night. This is because in America especially, we carry our velocity into the evening hours, which triggers are brain to be awake and alert, not to wind down mode. I challenge you sometime this week to look at your schedule and see how you can slow things down. This can be from stretching for thirty minutes to lighting candles throughout the house. Try this and see how your quality of sleep will improve when you teach your body to wind down in the evenings.

  • Anxiety

How the world works right now creates a sense of anxious time. Do you know anyone that is anxious or suffers from anxiety?  Anxiousness happens due to the fact the blood flow is going to your hindbrain, which activates the fight or flight response, which therefore slows down our other organs in our body, which produces this emotion. Next time you catch yourself feeling this way, stop and reflect of what you are feeling. Ask yourself why am I feeling this way, what is around me, is it warm or cold, is there a lot of people or chatter around me. The more awareness you can bring to yourself, the better you will become at avoiding the reactions that lead you to the place of anxiousness to began with.
